Taking advantage of the June 3rd holiday, I planned a one-day trip to Cochem. We drove 160 km from Düsseldorf, enjoying the ease of exploring Cochem on foot. Highlights included the stunning Cochem Castle and the vibrant Altstadt filled with shops and cafes. A thrilling chairlift ride offered breathtaking views. Despite pandemic restrictions, we indulged in local wines and dined at scenic restaurants. Rapid COVID-19 tests ensured a safe experience. Cochem's blend of history, beauty, and cuisine made it a perfect short getaway, showcasing the town’s unique charm and scenic landscapes.
After moving from Canada to Europe, we began exploring new cities affordably on long weekends. For All Saints' Day, we visited Bruges, renowned for its charming architecture, rich history, and delicious food. Traveling from Düsseldorf by Flixbus, we stayed centrally at Novotel and enjoyed exploring on foot. We savored delightful bagels at Sanseveria, indulged in exquisite chocolates from The Old Chocolate House, and sampled local beers at 2Be Moodshopping. Highlights included the Market Square, Basilica of the Holy Blood, and picturesque Minnewater Park. Despite a few hiccups, such as crowded cafes and mixed reviews on certain foods, Bruges left us enchanted.
